State’s gateway cities need a new opportunity to flower
Massachusetts needs a firmer compact with its “gateway cities,” the mid-sized urban areas that suffer proportionally higher rates of poverty, crime, and need for social services. The state should offer new programs to help the cities in exchange for municipal reforms that can free up even more money for revitalization.
