Receiving Respite: Helping Families With Special Needs


On Dec. 6, 2010, Governor Abercrombie released funds for social services that include Respite, a program that provides temporary relief for families with disabled children or special needs. Ian is a disabled yellow belt in karate that strives for a black belt, and respite is providing the relief to his mother and the means for Ian to take karate lessons where he reaps social and emotional benefits.
